Firearm offences

Firearm Offences

Firearms offences can range from possession of a screwdriver to the discharge of serious firearms. The Firearms and Offensive weapons act 1990 is the body of legislation which governs all of these offences. Offences under this act can be tried both in the District Court and the Circuit Court depending on the seriousness of the charge.

Investigations involving offences at the upper range of this legislation can often be related to gangland or other types of very serious criminal behaviour and it is important that a person has a solicitor present with them to understand the severity of the situation they are in even if they have nothing to do with what the Gardai are investigating.
